Recycling

The recycling method used at Liberty Place is Single Stream Recycling. This program enables employees to recycle most of their items into their blue recycling container and the rest of the items go into their trash can. It is very important that only recyclable materials go into the blue recycling containers.

Acceptable paper items that can be recycled include the following: Cups and containers, flattened cardboard, milk, juice and soup cartons, newspapers, magazines, books, phone books, junk mail and office paper (all items must be clean and empty). No tissue can be recycled at this time.

Acceptable plastic items that can be recycled include the following: Cups and containers; bottles and lids; bulky items (all items must be clean and empty). No plastic bags; foam polystyrene, straws or utensils can be recycled at this time.

Acceptable metal items that can be recycled include the following: Steel, aluminum, bottles, cans, containers (all items must be clean and empty). No paint cans can be recycled at this time.

Acceptable glass items that can be recycled include the following: Glass bottles and jars (all items must be clean and empty). No windows or ceramics can be recycled at this time.
Tips on how to prepare your recyclables:

  • Recyclables should be clean and empty
  • Do not bag recyclables, leave loose in container
  • No items smaller than 2"x2" (i.e., utensils, straws, small dressing or condiment cups)

Building Management will work very closely with the tenants, cleaning staff, and the recycling contractor to ensure that all recyclable materials are put into the recycling containers and that only “trash” is put into the trash containers. Compliance with Recycling is mandatory by D.C. Law.
